COPPA Compliance
Last Updated: August 2024. Our strict commitment to protecting minors' data.
1. What is COPPA?
The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) is a US federal law that imposes strict requirements to protect the privacy of children under 13. At safeguardchild, we are fully committed to the spirit and letter of this law, even outside the United States.
2. Verifiable Parental Consent
The safeguardchild app does not collect any data from the child's phone until the parent (or legal guardian) creates an account, verifies their email ownership, and manually enters a secret pairing code on the child's phone. This process ensures we obtain (verifiable parental consent) as required by law.
3. Data Usage Limitations (No Marketing)
The data collected from the child's phone (location, apps, call log) is exclusively intended for display on the parent's dashboard for protection and parental monitoring purposes.
We categorically affirm that we:
- Do not use children's data to display targeted advertising.
- Do not sell or share children's data with any third parties.
- Do not analyze the child's behavior for marketing purposes.
4. Transparency & No Hidden Apps
Digital ethics laws require that the app not be a hidden spyware. Therefore, the safeguardchild app is clearly visible on the child's phone as a protection shield icon, and displays a persistent notification in the status bar indicating that the protection system is active. This ensures the child is aware their device is being monitored by their family.
5. Parent's Right to Delete Data
The parent has full control over their child's data. They can at any time delete location logs, notifications, or photos from the dashboard. They can also delete the child's account entirely, which leads to the permanent erasure of all associated data from our servers within 30 days.
